名詞構文とは、文を名詞中心の表現に書き換えたものです。

名詞化すること

- She is happy. は、her happiness と名詞化します。
- He assisted. は、his assistance となります。
このように名詞化されると、主語（S）・補語（C）・目的語（O）になれます。
とくに、名詞化したものを無生物主語にして、英語らしくするのにも役立ちます。

動詞→名詞
Her smile makes me so happy.
訳 彼女の笑顔は私をとても幸せにします。
She smiles. が隠れています。
Your failure brought about the train delay.
訳 あなたの失敗は、列車の遅れを引き起こした。
You failed. が 隠れています。
I hope you will get over your son’s hospitalization.
訳 息子さんの入院を乗り越えてください。
Your son is hospitalized. が 隠れています。
The development of the railroad brought prosperity.
訳 鉄道の発展は、繁栄をもたらした。
The railroad developed. が隠れています。
動詞＋副詞→名詞
His abrupt resignation surprised them very much.
訳 彼が突然辞任して、彼らはびっくり仰天した。
He resigned abruptly. が隠れています。
「彼の突然の辞任」でもよいのですが、「の」が重なります。
上のように動詞に直して訳しましょう。
自然な日本語になることが多いです。
My great success came from their enthusiastic backing.
訳 私の大成功は、彼らの熱心な支援のおかげです。
I succeeded greatly. と They backed me up enthusiastically. が隠れています。

そのまま訳すと「彼の明確な説明」。硬い感じの訳です。

動詞＋目的語→名詞
動詞＋目的語を名詞に
It indicates his affection for his wife.
訳 それは、彼の妻への愛情を示しています。
He loves his wife. が隠れています。
We are arguing about our son’s education.
訳 私たちは、息子の教育について議論しています。
We educate our son. が隠れています。
His ownership of a large building is well known.
訳 彼が大きなビルを所有していることは、よく知られている。

Their invention of the useful tool helped them survive.
訳 彼らが有用な道具を発明したおかげで、彼らは生き残れました。

Her inspiration for the new product led to her promotion.

少し変則的ですが、She got the inspiration for the new products. が隠れています。
They finally announced their discovery of a new species.

助動詞＋動詞→名詞

Such things are of no significance and can be omitted.
訳 そのようなことは重要ではなく、省略可能です。
significant は of significance に言い換えられます。

lack を shortage にすると「不足」の感じがでます。

訳 私の注意欠如は、多くの問題を引き起こすかもしれません。

これも同様、lack を shortage にすると「不足」の感じがでます。

動詞＋人を表す接尾辞
動詞に人を表す接尾辞をつけて、名詞化します。
I have been an early riser since I was a child.
訳 私は子供の頃から早起きでした。
I get up early. が隠れています。
I was amazed. He was a good speaker of Spanish.
訳 驚きました。彼がスペイン語を上手に話していました。
He speaks Spanish well. が隠れています。
