英語のイディオムはたくさんあります。
とくに覚える価値があるものは、いくつかタイプがあります。
動詞や形容詞が特定の前置詞と結びついた慣用表現もその一つ。
今回は、形容詞と前置詞の慣用的な結びつきの基本を取り上げます。
- 「be動詞＋形容詞＋前置詞」が通常です。

基本形容詞と前置詞の使い分け
anxious about と anxious for
She feels anxious about his health.
訳 彼女は彼の健康を心配している。
anxious about は「～を心配している」。
He has been anxious for wealth since young.
訳 彼は若いころから富を切望している。
anxious for は「～を切望している」。for の追い求めるイメージです。
familiar to と familiar with
The singer became familiar to everyone.
訳 その歌手は、皆に親しまれるようになった。
familiar to は「～に親しまれている」。
Are you familiar with this type of art?
訳 あなたはこのタイプの美術に精通していますか？
familiar with は「～に詳しい、～をよく知っている」。
angry about と angry with（at）
What on earth are you angry about?
訳 いったい、何に対して怒っているのですか？
about なので「～に関して」のニュアンスです。
She was angry with him for being late.
訳 彼女は遅刻したことで彼に怒っていた。
angry with でも angry at でもだいたい同じ意味。
with の後には「人」が来ます。at の後には「人の言動」などが来るようです。
at のほうが「～をめがけて」のニュアンスがあり、強い感じです。
true of と true to
That is true of several cases I mentioned earlier.
訳 それは、前述のいくつかのケースに当てはまります。
true of は「～に当てはまる」。
You are always true to yourself, aren’t you?
訳 あなたはいつも、自分自身に忠実ですよね。
true to は「～に忠実である」。
