- 思考・伝達などを表す動詞に that 節を続ける言い方は頻出します。
- この記事ではthat節をとる英語の動詞や形容詞を見ていきます。

動詞・形容詞に節を続ける文型
思考や伝達の意味をあらわす動詞（形容詞）の後に節を続けることがあります。
従属節が動詞（形容詞）の内容を説明する役目を果たしています。
この表現では、いくつか注意点があります。
動詞・形容詞＋節の注意点
that の省略
that 節が続く場合、that は省略されることがあります。
if・whether 節
that 節以外の、if / whether 節や what節、how 節を続ける場合もあります。
whether は if よりも、はっきりと選択の意味を示します。
how や wh で始まる疑問詞の従属節が続く場合は、疑問文の語順にはならないことに注意しましょう。
時制の一致のルール
従属節の中の動詞の時制は、一部の例外を除いて主節の動詞の時制との関係で決まります。
これを時制の一致と言います。
suggest などの場合
suggest など「人に何かをしてもらいたい」意味を表す動詞があります。
これらに続く that 節のなかの動詞は原形、または should + 原形になります。
節を伴わないことも
この記事で取り上げる動詞（形容詞）は、節を伴う以外の使い方をすることもあります。
たとえば、 I think it difficult to do so. （SVOC）などです。

「意見」を英語でどう表しますか？
意見を表す英語のニュアンスの違いを整理します。

海外で意見を出すと高評価
日本人は、自分の意見を語ることに控えめです。
会議の場面でさえ、日本人は周りの雰囲気を伺って、自分の意見を変えるときがあります。考えをはっきり言わなくても、周りの人に察してもらえる文化もあります。
ところが、その常識は外では通用しません。
海外では言葉で自己主張をしないと認めてもらえない場合があります。
誰もがわかる言葉を使い、過不足なく明確に表現する必要があります。
ここからは少しレベルの高い文で練習してみましょう。
賛成・反対の気持ちの伝え方
この節では、that 節をとる動詞・形容詞とはかぎりませんが、一般的な賛成と反対の表し方を見ていきます。
好意的な意見を伝える
相手の発言を聞いてポジティブに受け取ったことを、率直に伝えます。
I completely agree with you regarding how to promote this event.
訳 このイベントの宣伝方法について完全に同意します。
completely agree で「完全に同意する」、regarding は「～に関して」。
In my opinion, there must be a lot of advantages to it.
訳 私の意見ではそれには多くの利点があるに違いないと思う。
In my opinion で「私の意見では」「わたし的には」です。IMOと省略されます。
We’ll have an edge over competitors.
訳 我々は競合他社より優位に立つでしょう。
have an edge over で「～より優位に立つ」。
It reassured me.
訳 それは安心しました。
reassure は「安心させる」。
反対意見などを伝える
相手に反対する場合、失礼にならない言い方が必要です。
わからない場合は、質問をして明確な説明を求めましょう。
I’m not very happy with your suggestion.
訳 私はあなたの提案にあまり満足していません。
That’s not how I see it.
訳 それは私の見方とは違います。

時制の一致をしない場合？
He said that he takes a walk every day.
訳は、「彼は毎日散歩をしていると言った」です。
時制の一致をしていないので、現在も繰り返して行う活動を示します。
took と書いてあれば、過去の反復動作を表します。
率直に話す。

意味 ～について率直に話す、～について意見を述べる
