人間関係を表す単語
relationship と relation
人と人との間柄を語る方法を見ていきましょう。
たとえば、友人、恋人、親子、夫婦、きょうだい、上司、同僚など、人現関係は多様です。
英語で「関係」を表すとき、relationship や relation が使われます。
「人間関係」を表現するのは、ふつう relationship です。
国と国、人種と人種などの関係は relation です。
使い分けを次の表に示します。

relationship は Cambridge Dictionary では、次の3つの意味で用いられるようです。

つまり、文脈によって「大人の関係」「家族関係」のニュアンスを含みます。
人間関係の話をすることは、ときにデリケートな話題になります。気をつけましょう。

基礎編
They soon became close friends.
訳 彼らはすぐに親しい友達になった。
good friend は「いい友達」、best friend は「一番の友達」。
She has an extended circle of friends.
訳 彼女は多くの友達がいる。
circle of friends は「友達の輪」。
We are talking about our mutual friends.
訳 私たちは共通の友達について話しています。
She is just a friend of a friend.
訳 彼女はただの友達の友達です。
a friend of a friend of a friend なら「友達の友達の友達」。
応用編
He usually calls his homies “Brother”.
訳 彼は普段、仲間のことを 「兄弟」と呼んでいる。
homie は「地元の友達」。
He’s having a bromance with my elder brother.
訳 彼は私の兄と（異常なぐらい）仲良くしている。
bromance とは男同士の厚い友情のこと。
We are just friends. We have a platonic relationship.
訳 私たちはただの友達です。プラトニックな関係です。
つきあっていない関係を platonic relationship といいます。
動詞的表現

How did you get to know each other?
訳 どうやって、知り合ったのですか？
get to know で「～と知り合いになる」。
She wanted to become friends with you.
訳 彼女はあなたと友達になりたかった。
Apparently, he and I have a lot in common.
訳 どうやら、彼と私は多くの共通点を持っています。
have a lot in common で「共通点が多い」。
Let’s keep in touch with each other.
訳 お互いに連絡を取り合いましょう。
keep in touch with で「～と連絡を取る」。
応用編
Is social media the only way to connect with other people?
訳 SNSだけが人とつながる唯一の方法なのか？
connect with で「人と親しくなる」。
Do you have anyone to hang out/around with today?
今日一緒に過ごす人がいますか？
hang out/around with は「～と一緒にぶらぶら過ごす」。
You can break out of your shell if you have the courage to jump in.
訳 飛び込む勇気があれば、自分の殻を破ることができる。
break out of one’s shell で「殻を破る」。
形容詞的表現
I’m on good terms with them.
訳 私は彼らと仲が良い。
have a good relationship with でも同じ意味です。
He was the only person who was concerned about me.
訳 私のことを心配してくれたのは彼だけだった。
concerned about は「心配する」「気にかける」。
恋人・家族
名詞的表現
She admitted that her ex-boyfriend was nice.
訳 彼女は元カレがいい人だったことを認めた。
He said that she is just a friend with benefits.
訳 彼は、彼女はただの都合がいい友達だと言いました。
a friend with benefits は「（欲求を満たすだけの）都合のよい友達」。
I guess that they have an illicit relationship.
訳 彼らは不倫関係を持っていると思います。
illicit は「不法の」。
動詞的表現
基礎編
We are dating.
訳 私たちはつきあっている。
We are in a relationship. も「私たちは交際している」の意味。
She got married to a French man.
訳 彼女はフランス人と結婚した。
get married to で「～と結婚する」。
Who do you fall in love with?
訳 あなたは誰と恋に落ちるの？
fall in love with で「～と恋に落ちる」。
応用編
She depends on her mon when it comes to making a tough decision.
訳 難しい判断となると、彼女は母に依存している。
depend on で「依存する」「頼る」の意味。
I’m always thinking about how to win a girl’s heart.
訳 いつも女の子のハートをつかむ方法を考えています。
win a one’s heart で「～の心をつかむ」。
She suspected he was two-timing her again.
訳 彼女は、彼がまた二股をかけているのではないかと疑っていた。
形容詞的表現
基礎編
They have come very close to each other.
訳 彼らは互いに非常に接近している。
She became attracted to a friend’s brother.
訳 彼女は友人の兄に惹かれていった。
The parents seem to be too protective toward their only son.
訳 その両親は、一人息子に対して過保護なようだ。
too protective で「過保護」。名詞は overprotection といいます。
応用編
I think she was compatible with him.
訳 彼女は彼と相性がよかったと思う。
She is said to be intimate with several co-workers.
訳 彼女は何人かの同僚と、大人の関係があると言われています。
intimate は「親密な」ですが、身体的関わりのニュアンスがあります。
They are in a love triangle.
訳 彼らは三角関係だ。
別れ
友人との別れ
I said goodbye to my local friends and moved to Tokyo.
訳 私は地元の友人たちに別れを告げ、東京に移った。
I’m afraid that I will lose contact with that friend.
訳 その友人との連絡が途絶えると思います。
He fell out with his mate and left the room.
訳 彼は仲たがいして、部屋を出た。
fall out with で「～と仲たがいする」。
カップルの別れ
I have to admit that we are growing apart.
訳 私たちが合わなくなってきていることを、認めなければなりません。
grow apart は「別々の方向に成長する」「合わなくなってくる」の意味。
Their love ended up one-sided.
訳 ふたりの愛は一方的なものに終わりました。
one-sided で「一方的」。
I decided to break up with this stupid guy.
訳 私はこの愚かな男と別れることにした。
break up で「別れる」。
My parents split up when I was 11.
訳 私が11歳の時に両親は離婚した。
divorce も「離婚する」。
無関係の表し方
They are a complete stranger to me.
訳 私にとってはまったく見知らぬ人たちだ。
I have nothing to do with that people.
訳 私はその人々とは何の関係もありません。
I have nothing to do with は「無関係です」。
一方、I’m not related to は「血縁がありません」の意味。

We’re all in the same boat. は「私たちはみんな同じ立場だ」。
