Japanese People’s Diligence

Today, the Prime Minister announced that he intended to resign due to his illness.
In this post, I am going to write about what I thought.
Japanese people are said to be diligent.
Although there are a lot of exceptions,
I pretty much agree that diligence is one of the distinctive features of Japanese people.
A lot of people seem to prioritize carrying out their responsibilities over other things.
I admit that this character contributes to our productivity and reliability.
However, we tend to feel a sense of guilt
even when we have to take sick leave because of our illness.
In this case, we tend to think that we may bother both customers and coworkers.
We don’t take it for granted that we have the right to take a rest in order to get better.
In the worst case scenario, those attitudes may cause tragedy from overwork.
If we find someone hesitating to take a day off due to sickness,
we need to strongly encourage the person to do so.
